Can you be an ASA
Now before you get mad and upset that is not a miss-spelling it is the name of the Son and successor of Abijam as king of Judah. Asa it was said 2 Chronicles 14:2 (NLT) 2for Asa did what was pleasing and good in the sight of the LORD his God. Asa had a father and grandfather (David) that taught him how to serve the Lord.
If we look at Asa's life we see that he had what I call faith in action. He had a servants heart toward God. You ask what is Faith in action? It is putting your money where your mouth is. It is being a peculiar person when it makes you very uncomfortable. What do I mean? Let me give you an example or two. 1 Kings 15:13 (NLT) 13He even deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made an obscene Asherah pole. He cut down the pole and burned it in the Kidron Valley. You can correct me here, but I am pretty sure this did not enamour his family to him. How many of you have had the where with all to go to your relatives and tell them they are going to hell if they do not accept Jesus as their Savior.? How many of you have put God above your own personal popularity with your family? 1 Kings 15:12 (NLT) 12He banished the shrine prostitutes from the land and removed all the idols his ancestors had made. Chronicles 14:3 (NLT) 3He removed the pagan altars and the shrines. He smashed the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah poles. First Asa makes his relatives mad by kicking mom out of the palace and taking away her stature as the Queen and now he goes after the rest of the people. He removes all the idols and false god's. Why, because he has a servants heart toward God, and more than that he fears the Lord God almighty more than man. Where are your fears placed my friend. Are they placed in the world? Are they placed in your job? Are they placed in your personal worth? You see where your fears are placed will determine who you serve. Jesus said Luke 12:5 (NLT) 5But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill people and then throw them into hell. Jesus shot straight from the hip, He did not pull any punches. Paraphrased He said do not fear man, do not fear the world, do not fear poverty, do not fear sickness, all these can kill, but only God has the power to determine your eternal destiny.
You see when Asa became King he understood this fact. And what was the result of Asa commanding all of Judah to worship the Lord God. 2 Chronicles 14:7 (KJV) 7Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered. Notice what happened, they built houses, cities and they prospered. Let's just look at what the dictionary says about prosper: to succeed in an enterprise or activity; especially : to achieve economic success; 2 : to become strong and flourishing transitive senses : to cause to succeed or thrive. This all looks positive to me. God prospered them because they what? Because they worshiped and feared God first. You must notice that Asa did not preach to them "sow your seed to meet your need" . He did not preach to them "blab it and grab, or name it or claim it" . He did not get up in the tabernacle and tell the people your faith is too weak. You need to get your faith muscles in shape. You cannot expect to get what you want if you cannot believe. He did not tell them they had the right to tell God what to do and how to do it. No! he said, 2 Chronicles 14:4 (KJV) 4And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment. Asa got back to the basics and told the people to seek God and do His will. Jesus summed it up for us but it is just too simple for us. Matthew 6:28-34 (NCV) "And why do you worry about clothes? Look at how the lilies in the field grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today but tomorrow is thrown into the fire. So you can be even more sure that God will clothe you. Don’t have so little faith! Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat? or ‘What will we drink? or ‘What will we wear? The people who don’t know God keep trying to get these things, and your Father in heaven knows you need them. The thing you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you. So don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own." One of the first scriptures I learned was the King James Version of this. Matthew 6:33 (KJV) 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
You see my friend you do not need the latest new teaching, you do not need to be purpose driven, you do not need the "prayer of Jabez", you do not need all the "easy" ways to get God to do what you want. What you need is just what Asa told all Judah and what Jesus told all of humanity. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness. If you have problems in your life seek first the Lord with all your heart. Jesus said Matthew 7:7 (KJV) 7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Many of our modern day preachers and false prophets take this out of context and use it to say. Ask and God has to give you anything you want. That is not what it is all about my friend. This follows and is a continuing part of the teachings found in chapter six. We must get our eyes on the whole picture. If you want the Lord to bless your life you need to get your eyes on what the Lord wants, not on what you want. I have never gone without or gone hungry when my eyes were on the Lord and I was seeking His will. But there was one time in my younger life I took my eyes off the Lord and by the time he was done with me I was jobless and homeless.
You can take this to the bank if you want to be blessed then you must first seek the Lord. Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NLT) 11For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me. 14I will be found by you, says the LORD. "I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and bring you home again to your own land."
Well I guess it is up to you. Who do you believe God and His son Jesus or a false preacher who wants to get rich off of you. You see my friend all God wants of your is your love, fear and worship. In return He promises to care for you and protect you.
